Hit the Road with A New Born

Having a baby is a game changer for most parents. The first time to hold the precious little peanut to know one’s life will never be the same. Like their trips will never be the same either. There are no such rules associated for traveling with a brand-new baby, and some families are comfortable hitting the road shortly after their baby is born. While for most, it makes more sense to stay close to home.

In general, pediatricians recommend mothers not to travel with a newborn during the first month. The main reasons behind it, the precaution, which mom needs for the postpartum rest and baby needs a stable environment to adjust to life after birth. Assuming one’s baby is full-term and healthy, may follow these tips for safe and comfortable travel:

  • Book the best seat- Ask the agent or make reservations for the best suitable seat is available. Some parents prefer seats in the back rows, especially during long flights, since they have easier access to the bathrooms in the rear of the plane.
  • Wear your baby-Get one’s baby used to a sling-type baby carrier. Slings enable parents to carry their baby in a variety of comfortable positions and to nurse discreetly. Also, it allows newly born to be covered up, which discourages passer-by from touching her.
  • Pre-feed- Feed the baby before boarding train or plane and be sure to burp her well. If anyone do need to feed their baby during the journey, offer smaller, more frequent feedings, and burp her well.
  • Travel Bag– Travelling with a baby go a lot smoother if parents pack all of the supplies they will need. Following are some supplies that anyone wants to add to their travel bag:
  • Diapers, diaper rash ointment, trash bags to dispose of the diapers and baby wipes.
  • Extra clothes
  • Feeding supplies, including bottles, nipples, formula, and bibs
  • Pacifiers
  • Age-appropriate toys
  • Oral rehydration solution (ORS) or any other medications that one’s baby needs
